On 28 March 2025, Alstom confirmed that it had received an order for 18 high-speed train sets (#TGV<\/a> in French) from Morocco. The total amount of the contract is estimated at EUR 781 million, and the deal was financed by an exceptional #G2G<\/a> loan from France to Morocco.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Talks about the procurement of new high-speed trainsets started last year. Now, this is an official confirmation that the negotiations have been finalized and the deal has been sealed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The trainset destined for Morocco is similar to the new Avelia Horizon TGV M model, which will be rolled out in France as of 2026. Each trainset has two levels and can accommodate up to 640 seated passengers. The cruising speed of the high-speed train is 320 kilometers per hour.<\/p>\n\n\n

It was during the state visit of French President Macron in October 2024 that the two countries concluded a financial package. In addition to the rolling stock, Alstom also provides the signaling system for the high-speed rail (#HSR<\/a>) network. Furthermore, Alstom has also supplied 240 tramways to ease urban mobility in the cities of Rabat and Casablanca.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Initially, the new high-speed trains will be deployed on the Tanger and Marrakech line, with an eventual extension toward Casablanca. The high-speed train will cover the distance between Tanger and Marrakech in under three hours. Morocco plans to have all 18 new high-speed trains up and running before it hosts the World Cup in 2030.<\/p>\n\n\n
