A meeting with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto then took place on Wednesday morning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last time the two leaders met was on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Brazil in November 2024. Subianto was formerly Indonesia&#8217;s Defense Minister and had entered into talk with Macron regarding the procurement of military hardware. Previously, Indonesia had expressed interest to purchase 42 Rafale fighter jets, 2 Scorpene-Evolved submarines and 13 Thales Ground Fire radar systems, and Macron would like to seal more military sales.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img data-dominant-color=\"838c9b\" data-has-transparency=\"false\" style=\"--dominant-color: #838c9b;\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/gbc1.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Subianto-Thales-03w-jpg.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"not-transparent wp-image-22659\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gbc1.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Subianto-Thales-03w-jpg.webp 600w, https:\/\/gbc1.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Subianto-Thales-03w-300x200.webp 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Thales Ground Fire Radar System<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>Both sides appear eager to deepen defense cooperation and are planning to undertake joint military exercises. Macron sees Indonesia as a key partner within France&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/gbc1.net\/index.php\/tag\/indopacific\/\">#IndoPacific<\/a> strategy. The Lombok Strait is taken by large vessels such as oil tankers and bulkers which cannot go through the shallow Malacca Strait.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Indonesia possesses the largest known global reserves of <a href=\"https:\/\/gbc1.net\/index.php\/tag\/nickel\/\">#nickel<\/a>, which is one of the <a href=\"https:\/\/gbc1.net\/index.php\/tag\/criticalminerals\/\">#CriticalMinerals<\/a> that go into the making <a href=\"https:\/\/gbc1.net\/index.php\/tag\/ev\/\">#EV<\/a> batteries and superalloys.
