The project is part of the multimodal transport integration of Uganda which aims to improve connectivity by interconnecting road, rail and rivers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) is the main contractor. The work is projected to last two years and expected to completed by 2027. The estimated cost for the upgrade from gravel to tarmac is USD 57 million. Other than the highway, the Government of Uganda plans to also build a landing site at Galiraya for the ferry service across Lake Kyoga linking Galiraya and Amolatar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>&#8220;China is pleased to be part of the infrastructure development of Uganda. China\u2019s support is mainly through investment, financing, and technical support. There is a well-known Chinese saying: \u2018To get rich, build roads first.&#8217; &#8221; <\/p>\n<cite>Chinese Ambassador ZHANG Lizhong <\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img data-dominant-color=\"655d5f\" data-has-transparency=\"false\" style=\"--dominant-color: #655d5f;\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/gbc1.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Uganda-02w-jpg.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"not-transparent wp-image-23559\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gbc1.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Uganda-02w-jpg.webp 600w, https:\/\/gbc1.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Uganda-02w-300x200.webp 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Kayunga District Road Upgrade Project Panel<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>According to the Minister of Public Works and Transport, the upgrade of this key highway in Kayunga district will greatly benefit agricultural producers which will be able to bring their produce to market with greater ease and lower costs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As part of the connectivity development master plan, Uganda is also extending the railway from Kampala to Malaba and that from Tororo to Gulu. Lac Kyoga has been identified as a potential transmodal hub.
