On 31 July 2025, Tanzanian President Samia Hassan symbolically laid the foundation stone for the Kwala Industrial Park (KIP) to officially launch the construction. Previously, the project was known as SinoTan Industrial Park, but has now been rebranded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The park covers an area of 2,500 acres (>1,000 ha) and is located near to the Kwala Inland Port in Kibaha district, at nearly 100 km from Dar es Salaam. The project is a partnership between Group Six International and Arise Integrated Industrial Platform. According to Janson Huang, the chairman of Kwala Industrial Park, the park ambitions to attract up to USD 3 billion (nearly TSH 8 trillion) in investment and set up some 200 factories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Strategically located near the standard gauge railway (SGR) and the Morogoro-Kibaha Highway, the Kwala Industrial Park is expected to position Tanzania as a major manufacturing and logistics hub in Eastern and Central Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Once completed, the Kwala Industrial Park will provide 50,000 direct jobs and support 250,000 indirect jobs. Annually, it is estimated that KIP will eventually produce USD 6 billion of finished goods and boosts exports by USD 2 billion. In 2024, Tanzania produced 67,000 university graduates and it is hoped that KIP will provide employment opportunities for the them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Currently, 12 factories are already present in KIP with 7 operational and 5 under construction. Over 1,000 Tanzanians work in the industrial park and the employee count is projected to reach 5,000 by the end of 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the key endeavors of KIP is to promote the manufacturing of lithium batteries which are used in Electric Vehicles (#EV<\/a>) and Energy Storage Systems (#ESS<\/a>). The manufacturing of high-capacity easy-to-recharge batteries will give a boost to the #EnergyTransition<\/a> while aligning with the Government of Tanzania’s objective of encouraging local value addition (#LVA<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
