On 29 August 2025, Indian PM Narendra Modi met with his Japanese counterpart Shigeru Ishiba in Tokyo. Several agreements were reached and sealed during that official visit. The headline figure is USD 68 billion (\u00a5<\/em><\/em>10T), which represents an average of USD 6.8 billion of annual #FDI<\/a> from Japan into India over the coming decade, from 2025 to 2035.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In terms of human capital, the two countries also reached a quota an agreement for half a million workers and students within the next five years. Japan is facing an aging population requiring geriatric care and India is in a position to be a source of a young and caring workforce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Out of the many cooperation areas, the Mumbai – Ahmedabad high-speed train project stands out as a symbol that bilateral ties have latched onto the fast track. During Modi’s visit in Japan, a special trip on the bullet train has been scheduled for Modi to experience firsthand the #Shinkansen<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n

“Japan is a tech powerhouse and India is a talent powerhouse. Modi highlighted the enormous success of Isuzu Motors in India. He hopes that both countries can ‘work the same magic’ in other hi-tech areas. India is also keen for Japanese firms to set up semiconductor production facilities in India. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ishiba reiterated that Japan is currently focusing on the Indian Ocean and Africa, as announced at #TICAD9<\/a>. Both countries firmly believe in a ‘free, open, peaceful, prosperous, and rules-based #IndoPacific<\/a>. Thus, bilateral cooperation can be extended to the #GlobalSouth<\/a> in line with the Foreign Policies of both countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
