On 30 December 2025, the US and C\u00f4te d\u2018Ivoire signed the Global Health Strategy (#GHS<\/a>) MoU to reinforce partnership on health. The US Ambassador Jessica Ba and Ivorian Health Minister Pierre Dimba signed the document in Abidjan. Ivoirian Prime Minister Beugre Mambe and Finance Minister also attended the signing ceremony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the next five years, up to 2030, the US will invest USD 487 million, while Cote d’Ivoire will invest a nearly equal amount of USD 450 million, bringing the total to USD 937 million. USD 125 million will be allocated to frontline health workers and essential health supplies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The MoU goes beyond the traditional aid approach toward a model focused on trade, innovation, and shared prosperity.”<\/p>\nUS Ambassador Jessica Ba<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

In line with the #AmericaFirst<\/a> Global Health Strategy (#GHS<\/a>), the partnership will protect Americans from infectious diseases while requiring recipient countries to invest their own resources and instill a results-driven approach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The US State Department Principal Deputy Spokesperson, Tommy Piggot, underscored that while Cote d’Ivoire becomes better armed to combat infectious diseases, viral outbreaks and epidemics are less likely to reach the US. Indeed, the agreement calls for strengthening epidemic surveillance and diagnostic capabilities right at the frontline. In addition, the recipient country will enjoy a better health supply chain and data systems to enhance disease control and response.<\/p>\n\n\n

Some analysts note that the nature of the agreement reflects the more transactional approach of the Trump 2.0 administration, as the US makes it clear that it expects something in return for its financial and technical support.
