In June 2024, Adani International Ports Holdings (AIPH) inked a concession with the Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA) to take over the operation of the container terminal at Dar es Salaam Port. The concession is specifically for berths 8 to 11 at Container Terminal 2,. These four berths handled 820,000 TEU in 2023 and accounted for more than 80% of Tanzania container volume.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n“The signing of the concession for Container Terminal 2 at Dar es Salaam port is in line with APSEZ\u2019s ambition of becoming one of the largest port operators globally by 2030. We are confident that with our expertise and network in ports and logistics, we will be able to enhance trade volumes and economic cooperation between our ports and East Africa. Last October 2023, DP World signed a similar agreement for berths 4 to 7. As part of the Agreement, DP World agreed to inject USD 250 million to upgrade the facilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With this deal, Adani Group takes its maiden step into the port management business in Africa. AIPH is a subsidiary of Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ), which is in turn a subsidiary of Adani Group.
