Minister Sentamu was pleased to learn that the regional <a href=\"https:\/\/gbc1.net\/index.php\/tag\/eacop\/\">#EACOP<\/a> project is nearly its 80% completion milestone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The EACOP is 1,443 kilometers long and links the oil fields near Lake Albert in Uganda to the seaport of Tanga in Tanzania. So far, 1,400 kilometers of pipes have been laid, and 500 kilometers have been buried and backfilled. <\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img data-dominant-color=\"eaf2f4\" data-has-transparency=\"false\" style=\"--dominant-color: #eaf2f4;\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"500\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/gbc1.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/EACOP-02-500x400-1-jpg.webp\" alt=\"East African Crude Oil Pipeline Alignment Map\" class=\"not-transparent wp-image-35495\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gbc1.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/EACOP-02-500x400-1-jpg.webp 500w, https:\/\/gbc1.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/EACOP-02-500x400-1-300x240.webp 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">East African Crude Oil Pipeline Alignment Map<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>The Project mobilized 3,500 workers in Uganda, and a total of 12,000 if Tanzania is accounted for. The cost of the project was initially estimated at USD 3.5 billion in 2017 when the project was conceptualized, but the latest figure put the project cost at USD 5.6 billion. Final Investment Decision (FID) was reached in 2022, then construction kicked off in 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) took a minority stake of 8% in the East African Crude Oil Pipeline project, while China Petroleum Pipeline Engineering Company is the main contractor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed aligncenter is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Uganda\u2019s Minister of Energy and Mineral Development, Hon.
