From 21 to 23 June 2026, Senegal’s President Bassirou Faye was on a state visit to Germany. During the visit, he had meetings with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeir and also attended the Senegal-Germany Economic Forum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

President Faye outlined the Emerging Senegal Plan (ESP) and the Vision 2050 for Senegal (#VIsion2050SN<\/a>) and the amended Investment Code to produce a more directed and conducive environment for foreign direct investments (FDI). The new legislation guarantees equal treatment for domestic and foreign investors. He also highlighted the shift from traditional public aid toward private sector investment and technology transfer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During 2026, Senegal and Germany signed a number of accords to enhance #FoodSecurity<\/a>, bolster #ElectricityAccess<\/a> in rural areas, foster eMobility, support SME, and promote medical technology transfer. Some projects are well-aligned with the G20 Compact with Africa, which seeks to prioritize green jobs for Africa’s youth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Braun will establish a local production facility in the Diass SEZ for dialysis equipment in Senegal. Daimler will train Senegalese workers in automobile production to support the development of a local electric vehicle (EV) industry.<\/p>\n\n\n

Merz and Faye Hold a Joint Press Conference<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n

GAUFF and Senegal’s Rural Electrification Agency (ASER) are expected to sign an EUR 120 billion financing agreement to boost Electricity Access for up to 750 villages across the country. The rural electrification comes under the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) between Senegal and G7, including Germany. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

To conclude the visit, Faye and Merz held a joint press conference. President Faye also took the opportunity to personally extend an invitation to German Merz as part of a return visit in order to elevate the bilateral relationship to a higher level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
