{"id":38425,"date":"2026-07-27T09:36:00","date_gmt":"2026-07-27T05:36:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gbc1.net\/?p=38425"},"modified":"2026-07-30T17:02:02","modified_gmt":"2026-07-30T13:02:02","slug":"nepad-launches-e500m-green-fund","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gbc1.net\/index.php\/2026\/07\/27\/nepad-launches-e500m-green-fund\/","title":{"rendered":"NEPAD Launches \u20ac500M Green Fund"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>On 24 July 2026, the African Union Development Agency (AUDA) New Partnership for Africa&#8217;s Development (<a href=\"http:\/\/nepad.org\">NEPAD<\/a>) announced the creation of an Africa Green Transition PPP Fund (AGTPF) to support green industrialization on the continent. In particular, AUDA publicized the announcement during the Ministerial Meeting of the Specialized Technical Committee of Trade, Industry and Minerals in Abidjan, C\u00f4te d&#8217;Ivoire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the first phase, AGTPF is aiming to mobilize at least EUR 500 million ($584M) in committed capital from the public and private sectors, as well as international institutional investors. The Fund intends to leverage blended finance to derisk and scale up financing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>&#8220;Africa does not lack green projects. It lacks the platforms that turn preparation into investment. The Africa Green Transition PPP Fund is built to close that gap, African-owned, institutionally credible, and aligned with the Union&#8217;s priorities.&#8221;<\/p>\n<cite>NEPAD CEO Nardos Bekele-Thomas<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>The objective of the AGTPF is to promote Public-Private Partnership (<a href=\"https:\/\/gbc1.net\/index.php\/tag\/ppp\/\">#PPP<\/a>) to move projects from conceptualization to implementation. The scale of investment is small, the implementation cycle is short, yet tangible benefits can be felt by the local communities in terms of living standards. Green desalination projects are a textbook case of the water-energy nexus and would kill two birds with one stone by promoting <a href=\"https:\/\/gbc1.net\/index.php\/tag\/energytransition\/\">#EnergyTransition<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/gbc1.net\/index.php\/tag\/watersecurity\/\">#WaterSecurity<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p><em>&#8220;<\/em>Our strategy is to build a diversified portfolio of bankable energy and sustainable infrastructure assets that deliver attractive long-term risk-adjusted returns while supporting Africa&#8217;s green industrial transformation. We believe the Fund provides an efficient platform for mobilising international capital into projects that generate both financial performance and measurable development impact.&#8221;<\/p>\n<cite>X Green Capital Luxembourg, Intitiator of AGTPF<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>The AGTPF is inspired from and structured as a Luxembourg SICAV-RAIF, which is a regulated investment vehicle that meets international institutional standards, while ensuring African ownership, origination and priorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the focal points of AGTPF is to boost <a href=\"https:\/\/gbc1.net\/index.php\/tag\/electricityaccess\/\">#ElectricityAccess<\/a> in Africa.
