Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar was on official visit to Tanzania from 5 to 8 July 2023. In a tweet, he underlined that the visit is “a reaffirmation of the strength of our historical ties as well as our #SAGAR<\/a> and Africa policies.” In a voice memo, he stated that when it comes to the #GlobalSouth<\/a>, “India walks the talk.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While in Tanzania, he commended the fruits of the friendship between India and Tanzania in various fields. In particular, India has cooperated with Tanzania to enhance water supply. In an effort to bridge the #DigitalDivide<\/a>, the world-renowned Indian Institute of Technology (#IIT<\/a>) of Madras will be opening a campus in Zanzibar with classes expected to start in the last quarter of 2023. In the field of #digitalization<\/a>, India and Tanzania have also set up an #ICT<\/a> Center of Excellence and the Param Supercomputing Center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The establishment of IIT Madras in Zanzibar actually represents the first time that the IIT brand is going out of India.<\/p>\nIndian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

EAM Jaishankar seized the opportunity to underscore the contribution of the Indian diaspora which is a key driving force behind the advancement of bilateral ties. A special session and cultural show organized by the Indian diaspora in Tanzania was part of the schedule.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Minister Jaishankar visited the Kibamba and Kiduthani water project sites. These sites are part of a larger project which will eventually supply water to 24 towns in Tanzanian and was made possible via a line of credit of USD 500 million from India’s EXIM Bank.<\/p>\n\n\n

Jaishankar hosted a dinner on board the Indian Navy frigate INS Trishul which was docked at the port in Dar es Salaam. India and Tanzania are working together to reinforce capabilities in #MaritimeSecurity<\/a> as part of the #SAGAR<\/a> initiative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During his visit, he co-chaired the 10th Joint Commission on Economic, Scientific and Technological Cooperation between India and Tanzania. He also delivered the opening remarks during the India-Tanzania Business Conclave and met with the Indian diaspora in Tanzania, of which the Gujerati form the majority.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
