The 46th Ordinary SADC Summit took place at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Center in Durban, South Africa, on Monday the 17th of August 2026. The theme of this edition was ‘Resilient, sustainable and inclusive industrialization through infrastructure development, agricultural and critical minerals transformation in pursuit of a just world.’<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n“Our collective industrialisation efforts cannot succeed if we rely on external markets to finish our goods. True economic sovereignty in Southern Africa begins when we process our critical minerals on our own soil, using our own youth’s talent, before exporting them to the world.”<\/p>\nOutoing SADC Chair and Zimbabwe President Emmerson Mnangagwa<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
South African Cyril Ramaphosa took the baton from outgoing Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa to assume the SADC Chairship for the next 12 months. Eswatini King Msati III was elected as the Chairperson of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defense and Security Cooperation. Former Botswanian President Mokgweetsi Masisi and former Mozambican President Joaquim Chissano were appointed to the SADC Panel of Elders to support conflict resolution and regional diplomacy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As South Africa assumes the Chairship, our single-minded focus will be unlocking the transport corridors and energy networks required to power a fully integrated, resilient SADC market.”<\/p>\nIncoming SADC Chair and South Africa President Cyril Ramaphosa<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
The main of this edition was to bolster industrialization through regional integration. The Summit also discussed the security issue in Mozambique, the political situation in Madagascar, and the Ebola outbreak in DR Congo. The next 47th SADC Ordinary Summit is scheduled to be hosted by Zambia around the same time in 2027.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
