From 17 to 19 August 2026, the Democratic Republic of Congo’s (DRC) President Felix Tshisekedi undertook a state visit to neighboring Tanzania to foster #RegionalIntegration<\/a> and strengthen the partnership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On 18 August 2026, Tanzania’s President Samia Hassan welcomed DRC’s President Felix Tshisekedi at the Kizimkazi State House in Zanzibar. Both sides agreed to revitalize the bilateral ties by reactivating the Permanent Joint Commission.<\/p>\n\n\n

In particular, DRC And Tanzania discussed cooperation on the #CentralCorridor<\/a> and the modalities associated with linking up the two countries’ railway network. DRC plans to build a dedicated dry port in Dar es Salaam with a bonded warehouse for goods destined for DRC. Currently, over 60% of Dar es Salaam’s cargo goes to DRC. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In terms of digital #connectivity<\/a>, DRC would like to link up the national fiber backbone to Tanzania via a submarine cable across Lake Tanganyika from Kalemie to Kigoma. The optical link has a length of about 180 kilometers, with a transmission speed of 100 Gbps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

DRC’s President Tshisekedi expressed his appreciation for Tanzania’s support for its sovereignty and territorial integrity, and both sides advocated the upholding of international law. DRC and Tanzania reiterated calls for an immediate ceasefire and the withdrawal of foreign forces, and commended the efforts for a peaceful resolution by Washington and Doha.<\/p>\n\n\n

In light of the Ebola epidemic in DRC, Tanzania stands ready to provide any emergency assistance if necessary. As this is the 17th outbreak, DRC provided reassurances that it has developed the experience to contain the virus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The two countries also explored cooperation in the field of hydrocarbons and minerals. DRC and Tanzania established a joint framework for geological research, ore extraction, and local value addition.
