{"id":39882,"date":"2026-09-01T09:16:00","date_gmt":"2026-09-01T05:16:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gbc1.net\/?p=39882"},"modified":"2026-09-03T22:09:47","modified_gmt":"2026-09-03T18:09:47","slug":"jica-grants-11m-to-rebuild-natete-bridge-along-nacala-corridor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gbc1.net\/index.php\/2026\/09\/01\/jica-grants-11m-to-rebuild-natete-bridge-along-nacala-corridor\/","title":{"rendered":"JICA Grants $11M to Rebuild Natete Bridge along Nacala Corridor"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>On 28 August 2026 in Maputo, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jica.go.jp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">JICA<\/a>) and the Government of Mozambique signed a grant agreement, whereby Japan will fund the reconstruction of Natete Bridge, located in the Ribaue District of Nampula Province in northeastern Mozambique. JICA Mozambique Representative Takahashi Sulimara and Mozambican Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Maria Manso signed the agreement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Natete Bridge is located on National Highway 13, along the <a href=\"https:\/\/gbc1.net\/index.php\/tag\/nacalacorridor\/\">#NacalaCorridor<\/a>. Due to recent flooding, the bridge suffered irreparable damage. Thus, the new climate-resilient design shall take into consideration the higher risk and greater intensity of flooding.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img data-dominant-color=\"909986\" data-has-transparency=\"false\" style=\"--dominant-color: #909986;\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/gbc1.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/Natete-02w-jpg.webp\" alt=\"Old Natete Bridge That Was Damaged\" class=\"not-transparent wp-image-39896\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gbc1.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/Natete-02w-jpg.webp 600w, https:\/\/gbc1.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/Natete-02w-300x200.webp 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Old Natete Bridge That Was Damaged<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>The Project cost is estimated at JPY 1.7 billion ($10M), and its implementation is expected to take 35 months, including design, procurement, and construction. The fund will cover the design and consulting services, proper disposal of the bridge debris, and construction of the approach roads and the new bridge. The bridge and river banks will also be reinforced to better withstand <a href=\"https:\/\/gbc1.net\/index.php\/tag\/climatechange\/\">#ClimateChange<\/a>. Mozambique&#8217;s National Roads Administration (ANE) is in charge of executing the Project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Nacala Corridor is a flagship project under Mozambique&#8217;s Five-Year National Development Plan (<a href=\"https:\/\/gbc1.net\/index.php\/tag\/ndp\/\">#NDP<\/a>) from 2025 to 2029. At the same time, the Nacala Corridor was identified as a flagship project at <a href=\"https:\/\/gbc1.net\/index.php\/tag\/ticad9\/\">#TICAD9<\/a>.
