Djibouti&#8217;s President Ismail Guelleh and Ethiopia&#8217;s PM Abiy Ali also attended the ceremony and delivered remarks on the occasion.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img data-dominant-color=\"8c8c9d\" data-has-transparency=\"false\" style=\"--dominant-color: #8c8c9d;\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/gbc1.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/DJET-02w-jpg.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"not-transparent wp-image-40938\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gbc1.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/DJET-02w-jpg.webp 600w, https:\/\/gbc1.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/DJET-02w-300x200.webp 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Aliko Dangote, Ismaile Guelleh and Abiy Ali at Groundbreaking for Djibout-Ethiopia Pipeline<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>The pipeline is 120 kilometers in length and connects the coastal Damerjog Industrial Park in Djibouti to the inland distribution hub at Dewele in Ethiopia. It is designed to transport multiple petroleum products. The estimated cost is USD 660 million and is a public-private partnership between Dangote Group and the Ethiopian Investment Holding (EIH). The African Export-Import Bank (Afeximbank) is financially backing the project.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img data-dominant-color=\"7e7e86\" data-has-transparency=\"false\" style=\"--dominant-color: #7e7e86;\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/gbc1.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/DJET-03w-jpg.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"not-transparent wp-image-40946\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gbc1.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/DJET-03w-jpg.webp 600w, https:\/\/gbc1.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/DJET-03w-300x200.webp 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Dangote, Djibouti and Ethiopia Sign the Strategic Petroleum Infrastructure MoU<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>The Project is broken down into two phases. The first phase will take about 18 months, and the pipeline will be ready to carry refined oil. Then, in phase 2, separate pipelines will transport crude and gas. Storage facilities over one million cubic meters (or 400 million liters) will be built at both ends. Previously, it took nearly five days to transport the petroleum by truck, but the pipeline will cut down the transit time to under a day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed aligncenter is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"Together Djibouti, Ethiopia and the Dangote Group will develop a 120-kilometre pipeline\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/uqKYrIRjibA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The pipeline is part of a larger regional industrialization drive and connects to the petrochemical complex in the city of Gode, in southeastern Ethiopia. A fertilizer plant at Gode is also being built with a capacity of 3 million tonnes of urea annually, transforming Ethiopia from an importer to an exporter.
