The order consists of eight Boeing 777-8F and two Boeing 777F valued approximately at a total of USD 5 billion. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>&#8220;Today marks a significant milestone in our cargo journey as we partner with Boeing to secure the future of our cargo operations. The addition of these advanced freighters will significantly enhance our operational efficiency, expand our global network, and drive further growth in our cargo business, aligning with our Vision 2035 long-term strategy&#8230; As the first African carrier to select the 777-8 Freighter, we are proud to continue our tradition of leading the continent&#8217;s aviation industry with cutting-edge technology.&#8221;<\/p>\n<cite>Ethiopian Airlines CEO Mesfin Tasew<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Ethiopian Airlines CEO Mesfin Tasew and Boeing SVP Brad McCullen signed the agreement. The signing ceremony took place at Ethiopian Skylight Hotel in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The US Ambassador to Ethiopia Ervin Massinga witnessed the signing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>&#8220;Ethiopian Airlines has long been a pioneer in African aviation, and we are honored that they have chosen the 777-8 Freighter to anchor the next phase of their cargo expansion. This order underscores the strength of our partnership and Ethiopian&#8217;s confidence in Boeing\u2019s next-generation widebody family&#8230; The 777-8F will provide Ethiopian with unmatched range, payload capacity, and fuel efficiency, allowing them to seamlessly connect Africa to major markets around the globe.&#8221;<\/p>\n<cite>Boeing SVP Brad McMullen<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>The B777 series freighter is a  next-generation iteration from the highly successful four-engine B747-400 series, but with twin engines, the B777 cuts operating costs dramatically. The current version is the B777F, while the B777-8F is an improved version. For instance, the B777-8F has a payload of 112 tonnes compared to 102 tonnes for the B777F. The B777-8F has a shorter range than the B777F. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>&#8220;This agreement represents a powerful symbol of the <strong>deep commercial ties<\/strong> between the United States and Ethiopia. By choosing Boeing, Ethiopian Airlines is investing in high-quality American engineering that will propel the airline&#8217;s future growth and reinforce Addis Ababa&#8217;s position as a premier global aviation hub.&#8221;<\/p>\n<cite>US Ambassador Ervin Massinga<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>The main improvements include the integration of the more powerful GE9X engine in replacement of the older GE90 and the application of carbon-fiber composite instead of traditional aluminum for the wing design. Boeing claims that the newer B777-8F achieves a 30% better fuel efficiency and lower emissions when pitched against the older B777F.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Boeing plans to deliver the first two planes by the end of 2027, with the rest of the order coming in gradually over a number of years. Ethiopian Airlines already has 22 B777 freighters in service.
