On 25 August 2023, Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni commissioned 16 new factories in the Sino-Uganda Industrial Park in Mbale City. He attributed the success of the Mbale Industrial Park to effective policy measures and the strong ties between Uganda and China.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Today, we commissioned 16 factories, and then we broke ground on another 9, for a total of 25.”<\/p>\nUgandan President Yoweri Museveni<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

In his speech, Museveni recalled the historical ties between Africa and China in the fight for freedom. He expressed his delight that the Chinese government fully supports Chinese enterprises to ‘go out’ and invest in Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n

In addition, he underlined the policy of returning property seized during the Idi Amin regime to Indians as a strong positive signal to investors. “You can’t irritate pioneer investors and expect new ones to trust you,” he pointed out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He expressed his satisfaction for #industrialization<\/a> and local value addition (#LVA<\/a>). In the future, Ugandans will be able to buy more locally made products. As a support policy, Uganda has banned the import of second-hand clothes in order to create a more favorable market for new textile factories.<\/p>\n\n\n

The Uganda government will ensure a stable and supportive environment by providing good infrastructure for investors. Uganda can become the regional hub which serves the wider East African region. In that regard, the NRM government is making sure to provide a warm welcome to foreign investors and working to provide a conducive climate for businesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The agreement for the Sino-Ugandan Industrial Park was signed between the Tian Tang Group and the Government of Uganda in 2017. So far, it has attracted companies involved in the manufacturing of detergents, diapers, garments, glass, electric meters, LED bulbs, mobile phones, televisions, to name a few. Today, the Mbale Industrial Park employs over 2,000 Ugandans and hosts 36 factories.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
