During the 2nd US-Africa Leaders Summit (#UALS2<\/a>), AU Chairperson and Senegalese President Macky Sall outlined the priorities of the African Union.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During a roundtable on the third and final day of the Summit, Macky Sall put forward the six priorities of the African Union as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \n
  1. Promote Peace & Security<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Facilitate financing<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Sustained commitment to investment in infrastructure as per G7 #B3W<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. Step up fight against #ClimateChange<\/a> and ensure equitable #GreenTransition<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n
  5. Enhance #FoodSecurity<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n
  6. Reform #GlobalGovernance<\/a> for more inclusiveness and fairness<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Africa is growing rapidly and has a huge financing need for its development. Despite several declarations of good intentions at various international fora, the IMF<\/a> #SDR<\/a> Funds have yet to be reallocated and disbursed and the debt relief promised by the Paris Club as well as other creditor nations to assist Africa in its economic recovery falls far short from expectations. Similarly, funds earmarked for adaptation and mitigation measures due to Climate Change are taking too long to be unlocked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    In addition, he called for the immediate lifting of sanctions against Zimbabwe in a bid to fight poverty and promote development. Mugabe is long gone and the sanctions no longer have their ‘raison d’\u00eatre’.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    He also deplored the threat of retaliatory measures against African countries which have long-standing ties with Russia as the West pressures other countries to take side in the Ukraine war. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Furthermore, he welcomed the ‘return of the US to Africa.’ However, Africa does not wish to have to choose between USA and China but is willing to work with all development partners.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
