WADB Approves $70M for Modernization of Agriculture in Togo

During the 15th Ordinary Board Meeting of the West African Development Bank (WADB) in Lomé on 29 June 2026, a FCFA 40 billion ($70M) financing package to support the program for the mechanization and irrigation of the agriculture sector (ProMAI) in Togo was approved. This brings the total amount for the program to FCFA 60 billion, after an initial tranche of FCFA 20 billion was allocated in October 2025.

The Program aims to boost agricultural output and productivity through better irrigation infrastructure and the application of mechanization. To that effect, several Regional Centers for Agricultural Mechanization (RCAM) were established around the country. In particular, the first ones were launched at Kara and Kpalime in 2023 and this new round of funding will allow the network to grow.

The approval comes after a positive evaluation report on the Program that became available in April 2026. According to the report, the Program operates within the parameters of good governance after formalizing its administrative procedures, financial accounting, and procurement process. The report concludes that the Program has successfully managed to bring tangible benefits to farmers and thus recommends its extension.
