Guinea and China Deepen Health Partnership with Joint Medical Center
On 12 November 2026, Guinea and China sealed the first-ever Joint Medical Center agreement in line with the #FOCAC Action Plan 2025-2027. Guinea’s Minister of Health Oumar Bah and China’s Deputy Chief of the National Health Commission SHEN Hongbing signed the Agreement in Conakry, Guinea.
On the occasion, Chinese Vice Premier LIU Guozhong traveled from Beijing to Conakry. During his visit to Guinea, Vice Premier Liu met with Guinean President Mamadi Doumbouya. Then, he also plans to attend the inauguration of the Simandou Iron Ore Complex, which is the flagship project under Guinea’s long-term development strategy, aptly named #Simandou2040.
It is to be recalled that China sent its first batch of 36 medical experts to Guinea in 1968, 57 years ago. Now, the 31st cohort from Beijing Friendship Hospital is in Guinea to deliver medical services.
The China-Guinea Friendship Hospital was a gift from China back in 2011. PowerChina started the upgrade in November 2023 and completed it in August 2025. After the upgrade, the Hospital was able to provide advanced medical diagnostic imaging such as MRI, CT Scan, DSA Angiography and AI-assisted orthopedics, and even surgical robots. Previously, Guineans had to travel abroad to access such services.
Under the new Agreement, the China-Guinea Friendship Hospital reinforces Guinea’s ambitions to become a regional medical hub in West Africa. In addition to treating cardiovascular and cerebrovascular ailments, it intends to introduce modern techniques such as minimally invasive surgery and AI-assisted healthcare. In addition, China has pledged to improve the capabilities of the medical staff through training opportunities both locally and in China.
