Dangote to Invest in Sugar Cane in Ghana

On 4 May 2025, Alike Dangote, Chair and CEO of Dangote Group, announced that his company will invest in building a sugar cane project in Kwame-Danso, Bono region. The objective is to reduce the sugr import bill of Ghana which stood at USD 162 million in 2024.

The Project comprises of 25,000 hectares of land under sugar cane cultivation. Dangote also plans a complex with a daily crushing capacity of 12,000 tonnes to produce molasses. The refinery will convert the juice into sugar and the distillery can ouput ethanol as a biofuel.

Dangote Sugar the subsidiary of Dangote Group focusing on the sugar business. It has the largest sugar refinery in Africa with a production of 800,000 tonnes annually.

The Dangote Group ambitions to contribute to the agricultural development across Africa while keeping as much benefits for the local community via industrialization.
