Tanzanian CRDB Bank Issues Inaugural Green Bond on Luxembourg Stock Exchange

CRDB Bank carried out an inaugural Green Bond Issue to the tune of TZS 171.8 billion ($65.7M) on the Luxembourg Stock Exchange. The listing marks the first time that a Tanzanian commercial bank has raised raised sustainable finance via the Luxembourg Stock Exchange. The GreenBonds will be listed on the sustainable finance platform, known as the Luxembourg Green Exchange.

The Green Bond is known as Kijani Bond in Tanzania as Kijani means Green in Swahili. It was oversubscribed by 429% and the capital will fund renewable energy, climate-smart agriculture, clean cooking, green building, sustainable transport, water & sanitation systems in Tanzania.

As is the tradition, a ceremony whereby the CRDB CEO Adbulmajid Nsekela got to ring the bell, in the company of officials from the Luxembourg Stock Exchange and Orbit Securities, on 30 June 2025. Orbit Securities is acting as the transaction broker.
