CNTR Pumps $550M Into Heavy-Duty Tyre Production in Egypt

On 9 June 2026, China National Tyre & Rubber Corporation (CNTR) announced that it is planning to expand its tyre production in Egypt following a meeting between CNTR Chair WANG Jianjun and Egypt’s Minister of Industry Khaled Hashem.

CNTR (SHSE: 600469) reviewed infrastructural progress in terms of energy, water and wastewater treatment. On the other hand, Minister Hashem underscored Egypt’s policy to promote renewable energy and highlighted the Local Product Preference Law to ensure minimum #LocalContent.

The new tyre production facility will be located in the Amreya district of Alexandria and situated on land adjacent to the exisiting Prometeon Tyre Factory, an already operational plant and existing subsidiary of CNTR. CNTR is in turn a subsidiary of SinoChem.

CNTR will focus on heavy-duty tyres for commercial and industrial applications. Specifically, CNTR will make tyres for trucks, buses, tractors, and other heavy vehicles. This market segment differs from the passenger vehicle market that Sailun is targeting.

The new Plant targets an annual production capacity of 1.5 million tyres and will employ some 1,600 persons. The Plant is expected to be ready by early 2028.
