Tanzanian President Hassan Visits China

Following the 20th Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), official visits to China by foreign leaders have resumed. Following the Vietnam, Pakistan, it was the turn of Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu HASSAN to come to Beijing on an official visit.

The trade volume between Tanzania and China was USD 5.74 billion in 2021 and has been growing at an average of 20% year-on-year for the past three years. China is also a leading source of #FDI into Tanzania with a cumulative of nearly USD 10 billion invested in 1,098 projects as of October 2022.

The Tanzania friendship is cemented in history with the Tazara project. China assisted Tanzania on its path to decolonization towards independence.

Several agreements were signed during the visit. In particular, both countries inked a Phytosanitary and Veterinary Protocol with a view to boosting export of avocado and aquatic products to China.

As part of deepening bilateral relations, China also agreed to finance the upgrade of the Zanzibar International Airport to the tune of USD 57 million.
