Chery to Invest $105M in JV with Fondal to Produce Jetour SUV in Algeria

During the China-Algeria Business Forum on 15 April 2025, Chinese SUV maker Jetour signed an agreement with Algeria Foundries (Fondal) for the production of vehicles in Algeria. The plant will be located in Batna, which is situated some 435 kilometers east of the capital Algiers. According to the Algerian Agency for the Promotion of Investment, the project will bring in an #FDI of about USD 105 million.

Jetour is a subsidiary of Chery and specializes in Sport Utility Vehicle (#SUV) and Crossovers. Chery is the 4th largest Chinese automaker, behind BYD, Geely, and Changan or Great Wall.

Jetour X90 Plus SUV

At the same time, Jetour signed an MoU with the Ministry of Industry of Algeria to foster the development of the automobile industry in Algeria. In particular, local content will reach 10% by the 2nd year of operation and will then ramp up to at least 30% within 5 years.

On the other hand, the venture will enjoy numerous incentives such as tax holiday, zero or low tax on imported components and machinery as well as a low lease price on the land for the factory.

Jetour T2 Hybrid SUV

Jetour started marketing its cars in Algeria in 2024 and the market response was quite positive. Currently, it proposes X70, X90 and T2 SUV models and Dashing crossover model on the Algerian market. The Jetour T2 is a high-end hybrid SUV with an angular aesthetics and an elevated stance.

The production capacity is expected to reach 270.000 vehicles annually, comprising mostly of SUV and Crossovers. The factory will employ 1,000 people, mostly Algerians.
