Qatar Pledges $180B to Support Burundi Vision 2040-2060
On 16 August 2025, Qatar Sheikh Masour bin Jabor bin Jassim al Thani arrived in Bujumbura with a high-level 22-member delegation to reinforce economic partnership between Qatar and Burundi. The delegation had working sessions witht he Ministry of Mines, Energy, Industry, Trade, and Tourism and also had an audience with President Evariste Ndayishimiye athe Kiriri Presidential Palace.
Revolving around Vision 2040-2060 (#BurundiVision2060) which outlines the long-term the national development plan (#NDP), the two parties exchanged views on how to contribute to realize the goals set out in the vision paper. Sheikh Maqnousr reaffirmed that Qatar is willing to support the emergence of Burundi and its goal of attained the status of a developed nation by 2060.
The Burundi Vision 2040-2060 will promote prosperity and enhance regional integration with EAC and SADC by focusing on:
- Infrastructure
- Energy
- Agriculture & Food Security
- Human Capital & Education
- Governance & Rule of Law
- Regional Integration
Burundi is the first stop of the Qatari delegation during an African tour. Recently, Qatar has announced that through its Sovereign Wealth Fund (#SWF), Al Mansour Holdings, it plans to invest up to USD 300 billion (#QA300B) across Africa and Asia in the coming few years.
