Zambia and USA Amend Half-Billion-Dollar MCC Compact

On 18 June 2026, the USA and Zambia issued a statement regarding an amendment to the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Compact to expand its scope from agriculture to mining, and infrastructure supporting #CriticalMinerals in particular. Initially signed in October 2024, it was a Farm-to-Market Compact focusing on improving logistical infrastructure for rural farmers and the upgrade of agricultural machinery.

Based on the Compact, it is to be recalled that the USA was to provide a grant of USD 458 million, while the Zambian government would contribute USD 33 million to bring the total investment to USD 491 million. The projects targeted will now also include the rehabilitation of ‘priority road segments’ in the North-Western and #Copperbelt Provinces that are aligned with the #LobitoCorridor.

During the signing ceremony, Secretary to the Treasury Felix Nkulukusa underlined the longstanding and vibrant bilateral relationship between Zambia and the US based on shared values, mutual respect, and a strong willingness for closer cooperation.
