Jindal Invests $160M to Electrify Coal Mining Operations in Mozambique
On 24 July 2026, Jindal Group announced that it will invest USD 160 million to fully electrify its coal mining operations in Mozambique. The Project primarily targets the Moatize coal mine owned by Vulcan, a subsidiary of Jindal Group, in Tete province.
The Project involves the construction of a 300-MW thermal power plant. 90 MW will be used for the extraction and 30 MW for the processing. Another 100 MW. Another will power the 912-kilometer Nacala Corridor. Any surplus power will be fed and sold to Mozambique’s national grid. Jindal also intends to upcycle the ash as an additive to make eco-friendly cement.

In May 2026, Jindal Group Chair Naveen Jindal had an audience with Mozambican President Daniel Chapo in Maputo. Jindal reiterated its commitment to contribute to the socio-economic development of the country. Jindal has been supporting the local community by building youth training centers and fostering women’s empowerment programs.
After a long legal battle, JSW Steel finally started development of the Revuboe Mine. The mine has a verified coal reserve estimated at 850 million tonnes, including 250 million tonnes of premium coking coal used in steel production.
