US-AU Strategic Infrastructure and Investment Working Group Convenes Roundtable on the Margins of UNGA81

On 24 September 2026, the US-AU Strategic Infrastructure and Investment Group (SIWG) convened a roundtable in New York on the margins of the 81st United Nations General Assembly (#UNGA81). US Assistant Secretary of State Frank Garcia and AUC Commissioner for Economic Development Francisca Belobe co-chaired the meeting. The Corporate Council on Africa (CCA) was also represented by its Chair, Florie Liser.

It is to be recalled that the #SIWG was officially launched in Addis Ababa in January of this year. Broadly speaking, the Working Group seeks to mobilize American private capital in a bid to narrow the financing gap for infrastructure development in Africa.

The meeting reviewed progress on the previously identified projects based on the AU’s Program for Infrastructure Development in Africa (PIDA) list. The projects under examination include the #LobitoCorridor, the Nacala Corridor, the Walvis Bay Hydrogen Hub, the Petroleum Port in Mozambique, and the Inga Dam in the DR Congo.

The next SIWG meeting is scheduled to take place in Mauritius, under the theme ‘From Framework to Frontier: Advancing the US-AU Strategic Infrastructure and Investment Partnership‘, as part of the US-Africa Business Summit 2026 (#UABS2026) in December 2026.
