Mahama Breaks Ground for Expansion of Sentuo Oil Refinery
On 26 June 2026, Ghana’s President John Mahama took part in the groundbreaking ceremony for the Phase 2 expansion of the Sentuo Oil Refinery in Tema. The expansion will upgrade the capacity from 40,000 to 100,000 barrels per day (bpd). Minister for Energy, John Jinapor; Minister for Trade, Elizabeth Agyare and Chair of Sentuo, Mr XU Ningquan were also in attendance.

In his speech, President Mahama underlined that despite volatile petroleum prices amidst geopolitical tensions, his government has been able to maintain macroeconomic stability. He commended the fiscal discipline and ongoing reforms for maintaining investor confidence.
“This expansion is not merely an investment in infrastructure; it is an investment in Ghana’s future. By increasing domestic refining capacity, we reduce our dependence on imported petroleum products, strengthen our fuel supply chains, and retain more value within our economy.”
