India’s Lohum Starts Shipping Lithium from Zimbabwe
On World EV Day, falling on 9 September 2026, Lohum Cleantech announced its first shipment of lithium from Zimbabwe, marking the first Indian company to do so from an overseas mine. Lohum CEO Rajat Verma underscored his company’s role in securing lithium for India’s electric vehicle (#EV) sector.
Lohum has secured mining rights to 10 #lithium blocks in Matabeleland South Province covering nearly 1,100 hectares. These blocks hold an estimated reserves of 40 million tonnes of spodumene. Annually, Lohum plans to produce 30,000 tonnes of lithium carbonate equivalent. Lohum plans to expand by acquiring another 90 adjacent blocks.

In line with policies to promote local value addition (#LVA), Lohum will transform spodumene into lithium sulphate before export. Thus, Lohum plans to invest USD 100 million to construct a lithium sulfate plant. During the transition phase, Lohum is using third-party facilities near Matabeleland to process its ore.
To finance its ambitious overseas expansion plan, Lohum is raising capital via both equity and debt for total of USD 120 million. So far, it has received backing from I9 Capital, Singularity Ventures, and Poonawalla Vision Fund-1. In fact, Lohum is actively preparing for an Initial Public Offering (#IPO) in early 2027 to raise more funds.
