Sunrise Textile Inks Deal to Invest $240M to Build Two Factories in Morocco

On Thursday 20 March 2025, Chinese textile company Sunrise Group signed an agreement with the Government of Morocco to build two textile factories in Morocco. The two plants will be located in Fez and Skhirate and will mark delocalisation of Sunrise factories closer to its strategic markets.

The factories will produce yarn, fabric and clothing and will necessitate an #FDI of USD 240 million. The two factories expect to create 7,000 direct jobs as well as 1,500 indirect jobs.

The textile and leather sector employs 27% of the labor force in Morocco. It accounts for 70% of the total value of the national industrial output.

Morocco Minister for Investment Mohcine Jazouli met with Delegation from China National Textile and Apparel Council

It is to be recalled that Sunrise Textile was part of the delegation led by the China National Textile and Apparel Council (CNTAC) which visited Morocco to explore potential partnerships in September 2024. The CNTAC delegation consisted of 20 Chinese firms in the textile and garment sector.

At that time, it was announced that Sunrise would invest USD 420 million to build a vertically integrated textile industrial park. The Park would employ 10,000 persons and would become operational by 2027.

Sunrise hopes too reduce delays and logistical costs by being present in Morocco which is right across the Mediterranean Sea from Europe. In 2024, the value of exports from the Moroccan Textile and Leather Sector, which goes mainly to Europe, amounted to USD 4.5 billion.
