Ruto Attends Foundation Laying Ceremony for China-Kenya Commerce Center
On 1st October 2025, Kenyan President William Ruto attended the Foundation Laying Ceremony of the China-Kenya Commerce Center (CKCC) in Nairobi. China Plaza Group is the main promoter behind the project which centers around a conference and exhibition complex. The Center ambitions to boost trade and investment between the two countries, and even beyond.
The construction of #CKCC will cost KSH 5 billion ($38.7M) and the first phase is expected to be delivered by October 2026 according to KenInvest. During construction, the Project will employ 3,000 people and is expected to provide another 3,000 jobs when fully operational.

The Project is built on an area of over 68,000 square meters and incorporates green building technologies such as rain harvesting and vegetated roofs. The exhibition space is divided into light and heavy industrial products. The Center incorporates a four-star business hotel and boasts another five-star one around a central courtyard.
During his speech, President Ruto underscored that the Project is aligned with #KenyaVision2030 and the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (#BETA) 2022-2027 with a view to develop Kenya into an industrialized middle-income country. In particular, the Center aims to ‘transform underutilized government assets into engines of growth.’ The Center will not only showcase goods from China for the local and regional markets, but also promote locally manufactured goods destined for the global markets.
