Google CEO Pichai Unveils America-India Connect Project at AI Impact Summit in India

During the AI Summit in India, Google CEO Sundar Pichai announced the America-India Connect Project, which will link the USA to India via a high-speed submarine fiber optic cable. It is estimated that the Project would cost USD 15 billion and would take 5 years to deploy.

The America-India cable starts from Myrtle Beach on the US East Coast, then traverses the Atlantic to Spain via the Nuvem cable. It goes down the African West Coast up to Cape Town, in South Africa, via the Qeuiano cable. Then, it goes around the Cape of Good Hope, traverses the Indian Ocean before landing at Visakhapatnam (Vizag) on India’s East Coast, which is a new landing node being added to the existing ones in Mumbai and Chennai.

Once operational, the cable will provide backbone capacity for cloud and AI applications. The cable carefully avoids certain hotspots of the Read Sea and the chokepoints such as the Suez Canal.

In conjunction with the hardware, Google will enhance the #AI soft skills. Google will roll out local AI skilling initiatives, including an AI Professional Certificate Program, to train the workforce on the new possibilities opened up by the new technologies.
