Tshisekedi Visits Israel to Bolster Bilateral Ties

Revival of Ties

At the start of September 2026, the Democratic Republic of Congo’s (DRC) President Felix Tshisekedi undertook a working visit to Israel to revive ties. As a sign of the commitment to deepen cooperation, Israel will reopen its embassy in Kinshasa, while the DRC will move to a better location in Jerusalem.

During the visit, President Tshisekedi met with his counterpart President Isaac Herzog and the Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to discuss matters of common interest. Tshisekedi previously officially visited Israel was in 2021, while Herzog visite DRC in 2025.

Security and Defense

DRC is considering using Israeli technologies for surveillance. Both sides have agreed on a framework for the sharing of intelligence. Kinshasa hopes the new capabilities will help to address the security challenges around its eastern border.

Agritech

DRC also plans to apply Israeli agritech expertise to modernize its agricultural sector and bolster #FoodSecurity.

Healthcare

With the Ebola outbreak in DRC, Israeli reiterated its support to DRC through capacity-building programs delivered via MASHAV, the Israeli International Cooperation Agency.

Lobito Corridor

Tshisekedi invited Israel to contribute in the all-round development of the Lobito Corridor. DRC views the Lobito Corridor as much more than an efficient way to transport minerals, but would like to leverage its potential fully to transform its economy.

Follow-Up

In July 2026, DRC Foreign Minister Therese Kayikwamba and her Israeli counterpart Gideon Sa’ar had signed several Memoranda of Understandings (MoUs) covering agriculture, health and technology. Therefore, this presidential visits serves as a follow-up and also seeks to deepen bilateral partnership.
