Blinken Travels Again to Africa to Strengthen US-Africa Ties

Following the US-Africa Leaders Summit in December 2022, US State Secretary Antony Blinken is travelling to Ethiopia and Niger from 14 to 17 March 2023.

In Addis Ababa, Secretary Blinken plans to advance #PeaceAndSecurity in the region of Tigray in northern Ethiopia and across the wider region of the Horn of Africa. In that difficult context, he will discuss humanitarian assistance and human rights with relevant stakeholders.

While in Addis Ababa, he shall also have a working session with the AUC Chair Moussa Mahamat to follow up on commitments and pledges made at the US-Africa Leaders Summit regarding #FoodSecurity, #ClimateChange and Just #EnergyTransition. The US would like to reiterate its support for permanent African representation at multilateral bodies.

After Ethiopia, Secretary Blinken will visit Niger. Again, he shall promote Peach and Security. In particular, he shall engage people in the conflict areas of Niger who have enrolled on the Disarmament, Demobilization, Reintegration and Reconciliation (DDRR) program. Talks on partnerships to address the Climate Crisis and #GoodGovernance are also expected to be on the agenda during meetings with Niger President Mohamed Bazoum and Foreign Minister Hassoumi Massaoudou.
