Central Corridor at Center of DRC – Tanzania Partnership

From 17 to 19 August 2026, the Democratic Republic of Congo’s (DRC) President Felix Tshisekedi undertook a state visit to Tanzania to strengthen partnership in various fields, including energy, health and security.

On 18 August, Tanzania’s President Samia Hassan welcomed DRC’s President Felix Tshisekedi at the Kizimkazi State House in Zanzibar. Both sides agreed to revitalize the bilateral ties by reactiving the Permanent Joint Commission.

In particular, DRC And Tanzania discuss cooperation on the Central Corridor and the modalities associated with linking up the two countries’ railway network. In terms of digital connectivity, DRC would like to link up the national fiber backbone to the submarine cable in the Indian Ocean, via Tanzania.

Bilateral between DRC and Tanzania

President Tshisekeki expressed his appreciation for Tanzania’s support for maintaining its territorial integrity and advocate the upholding of the international law. Both sides commended the efforts for a peaceful resolution by Washington and Doha. In light of the Ebola outbreak in DRC, Tanzania stands ready to provide any emergency assistance necessary.

The two countries also explored cooperation in the field of hydrocarbons and minerals. DRC is pushing for more local beneficiation of its #CriticalMinerals, while Tanzania is planning to build an oil refinery in Tanga.
