AGRA Unveils Roadmap for Rwanda’s Agricultural Transformation

On 14 August 2023, Rwanda unveiled its Agricultural Transformation Strategic Plan 2023-2027. AGRA President Agnes Kalibata and several Rwandan were present on the occasion.

The plan has earmarked a budget of USD 50 million over the next five years from 2023 to 2027 to upgrade Rwanda agricultural sector.

“The new five-year strategy is aimed to increase the competitiveness of Rwanda’s agri-food systems in line with the country’s long-term development roadmap Vision 2050.”

In line with Rwanda’s Vision 2050, the Rwanda Minister of Agriculture Ildeponse Musafiri underscored that the launch of the new Plan is very timely as the Government targets to promote #FoodSecurity and #SustainableFarming within the global context of the Ukraine-Russia Conflict and the #ClimateChange.

During the launch ceremony, a discussion panel was held to explore how to promote Sustainable Farming and Self-Sufficiency for Food Systems in Africa.

The Plan include the following key axes for action:

  • Strengthen capacity of SME engaged in Agribusiness
  • Widen access to finance
  • Accompany SME to develop bankable Agribusiness projects

In particular, a key focus of the Plan is the selection, development and propagation of resilient high-yield seeds to improve crop yield. Over the next five years, the Plan aims to support and upskill 1.5 million small-scale farmers and 500 agribusinesses.
