FGN Power and CMEC Ink Deal for Upgrading Transmission Lines Under PPI

On 9 April 2025, the Federal Government of Nigeria Power Company (FGN PowerCo) signed an Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Financing (EPCF) contract with China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC). The signed contract value is USD 328,818,916.99 and the signature of this contract follows the visit of a CMEC delegation in July 2024.

On the occasion, Nigerian Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu underscored that this project marks a significant step towards achieving reliable electricity for Nigerians and Nigeria is happy to deepen to deepen collaboration with top-tier partners such as #CMEC to deliver on its promise. Under the Presidential Power Initiative (PPI), Nigeria has set up the special purpose vehicle FGN PowerCo whose mission is to enhance #ElectricityAccess for all Nigerians.

As per the new contract, CMEC will be responsible for the rehabilitation or construction of a 330 kV and another 132 kV transmission line which is part Phase I the Presidential Power Initiative (#PPI). The Phase I comprises 7 brownfield and 10 greenfield lines, totaling 544 km with a load capacity of 7 GW.
