Mahama Pushes Investment and Growth Agenda During Visit to UK
From 31 May to 3 June 2026, Ghana’s President John Mahama conducted a state visit to the United Kingdom in a bid to boost investment and foster growth. The mission proved fruitful by fostering partnerships in the fields of infrastructure development, climate finance, and technological applications.
On 2 June 2026, President John Mahama had a breakfast bilateral with UK PM Keir Starmer at 10 Downing Street. The next day, President Mahama also had the opportunity to ring the opening bell at the London Stock Exchange. To top it off, Mahama went to Buckingham Palace to meet King Charles III.
Mahama also delivered a highly publicized keynote at Chatham House, centered around Ghana’s economic recovery and development strategy. President Mahama made it a point to interact with the Ghanaian diaspora in a town hall meeting and announced constitutional reforms to allow Ghanaians with dual citizenship to serve at the parliamentary and ministerial levels in Ghana.

The Ghana-UK Investment Summit 2026 took place at Raffles Hotel in London from 1st to 2nd June 2026. Some 800 delegates attended the event, where more than 30 bankable projects were presented to investors. Deals worth GBP 215 million were signed during the Summit.
The deals included the Takoradi Dock Project, which is the first dry-dock for ship repair based on international standards in the Gulf of Guinea. The African Development Bank (AfDB), the Afreximbank and the Trade & Development Bank (TCB) formed a consortium to provide debt financing for the projects. Then, InfraCo Africa — the investment arm of UJ’s Private Infrastructure Development Group (PIDG) — stepped in to provide late-stage equity financing to the tune of GBP 101 million. In addition, Ghana’s Petra Pension Funds also invested in the project.
Several climate financing deals were also sealed. The Ghana Reforestoration Fund received GBP 85 million to scale up bamboo and timber plantations. Additionally, the Oti Region received GBP 9 million to support ecological restoration and sustainable agroforestry development. On the technological front, the Imperial College of London will set up an Innovation Hub in Ghana to advance #AI, climate tech, and other #hitech applications.
