Fiat Algeria Auto Plant to Start Production in 1Q23

The Italian automaker Fiat is scheduled to complete its factory in the city of Oran by March 2023. Initially, the plant will output 60,000 vehicles per year and the production can ramp up to 90,000 units destined for both the export and local markets.

Algeria offers a conducive business environment for carmakers as it positions itself one of the major auto makers in Africa. The objective is two-fold: to bring in more foreign currency export and to reduce the importation of 2nd hand vehicles.

The realization of the new plant follows the signature of agreement between Fiat and the government of Algeria to produce, sell, service vehicles. In addition to assembly, spare parts will also be manufactured locally. It is also worth noting that the Oran plant already has in its plan to produce Electric Vehicles (#EV) as part of its plan to promote the #GreenTransition.
